The Bapco Modernization Program (BMP) aims to meet and exceed national and international standards for reducing the environmental footprint of the company’s operations. As part of the project, more than 50 environmental and social studies were conducted. Despite an increase in oil refining capacity, significant reductions have been made in sulfur dioxide (SO₂) emissions, nitrogen oxides (NOx), and the volume of treated wastewater discharged into the sea. The project also includes soil rehabilitation and biodiversity support through the planting of mangrove trees, a program that began in 2018.
