Cases and effects:
In 2015, SABIC built the world's largest carbon capture and utilization (CCU) plant. The facility captures 500,000 metric tons of CO₂ annually from ethylene glycol production, repurposing it as industrial feedstock. To offset an equivalent amount of emissions, approximately 11 million trees would need to be planted. This project highlights how carbon emissions can not only be reduced but also effectively integrated into manufacturing processes.
SABIC is one of the world’s leading petrochemical companies, headquartered in Saudi Arabia. The company pioneers innovative solutions for the chemical industry, actively implementing sustainable technologies.
